Who is the next President?
Several hopefuls are gearing up for the coming 2010 Presidential Elections. As expected, few names came up on top. Expect some these names to be in the final list though almost all of them are still undecided to run on 2010 election.
Jejomar Binay
Current mayor of the City of Makati in the Philippines. He is also the president of the United Opposition (UNO), National President of Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Laban (PDP-Laban) and National President of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines

Background
In 1998, Binay was appointed Chairman of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) with cabinet rank. He was also appointed as Vice-chairman of the Pasig River Rehabilitation Commission and Traffic Czar for Metro Manila
Binay was reelected as mayor of Makati in 2004, winning over actor-TV host and then Vice Mayor Edu Manzano via landslide. In 2005, Binay ran for another term and won again by a landslide against Councilor Oscar Ibay. He ran for his third and last term as mayor in 2007, beating incumbent Senator and actor Lito Lapid. His margin over Lapid has been considered as the largest margin in a local election in Makati City.
Noli De Castro

Background
De Castro began his career as a broadcaster during the Marcos dictatorship, when press freedoms were suppressed. He worked as a field reporter for Johnny de Leon, a popular radio announcer at the time. He later became a radio announcer in RPN’s DWWW station from 1982 to 1986.
After the ouster of Marcos, de Castro joined ABS-CBN. He got his break into television as the segment host of Good Morning, Philippines’ “At your Service”. He also joined dzMM, a radio station of ABS-CBN, as the anchorman of “Kabayan”. It was because of the popularity of the program that he gained the nickname “Kabayan Noli”
In 1987, De Castro became host of “Magandang Gabi Bayan” and anchorman of the news and public affairs hit, “TV Patrol”. In January 1999 he became overall head of production of “TV Patrol” and vice president of dzMM
Francis Escudero

Background
A lawyer by profession, Escudero first entered the realm of politics in 1998 when he was elected as representative of the 1st District of Sorsogon. This marked the start of what many describe as Escudero’s meteoric rise to the nation’s consciousness as a leader.
After serving three full terms at the House of Representatives, Escudero was elected to the Philippine Senate in 2007 earning the second highest number of votes.
One of the youngest officials elected to the Senate, Escudero presently heads the Senate Committees on Justice and Human Rights; Constitutional Amendments, Revision of Codes and Laws; and Banks, Financial Institutions and Currencies
Joseph Estrada

Background
He entered politics in 1967, was elected and re-elected mayor of the Municipality (now City) of San Juan which he served with dedication and distinction for more than 16 continuous years. Unfortunately, he was one of hundreds of local officials who were asked to step down in the aftermath of the 1986 EDSA revolution. When he left his post, the San Juan Municipal treasury registered P24-million in savings.
In 1972, he was selected as one of the Ten Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) in Public Administration by the Philippine Jaycees. He was also voted Outstanding Mayor and foremost Nationalist by the Inter-Provincial Information Service in 1971 and awarded the coveted title, “Most Outstanding Metro Manila Mayor,” the following year by the Philippine Princeton Poll.
Bayani Fernando

Eddie “Among Ed” Tongol Panlilio is a Filipino Roman Catholic priest who was elected as the 26th governor of Pampanga. He was suspended from his priestly ministry upon announcing his intention to run as governor. He is the second priest to be elected to public office in the Philippines, the first being Fr. Margarito Gonzaga, who was elected mayor of Alburquerque, Bohol in 1971.
Mar Roxas

Mar Roxas was elected into the Senate in 2004 with approximately 20 million votes, the most obtained by a candidate in any Philippine election. Manny Villar

Manny Villar received several awards including the Ten Outstanding Young Men in 1986, Agora Award for Marketing Management in 1989, Most Outstanding CPA by the Institute of Certified Public Accountants in 1990. In 2004, Manny Villar was named the Most Distinguished Alumnus of the University of the Philippines, the highest recognition given by the university – for his exemplary public service and achievements.
In 1992, he entered politics and was elected Congressman of Las PiƱas and Muntinlupa for three terms in a row, consistently posting landslide victories. In 1998, he was chosen Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Manny Villar was elected Senator in year 2001. In July 2006, with the staunch support of majority of his colleagues, he assumed the Senate Presidency during the third regular session of the 13th Congress.
Manny Villar to date is the only post-war public official who became both speaker of the House of Representatives and Senate President.
Manny Villar is the President of the Nacionalista Party – the country’s grandest political party.

I wonder who will be the choice of the majority. I hope the next president will make the Philippines a progressive and a corruption-free country! If that happens, I won't settle for working abroad!
